Meet the Instructors

Aidan is a Lifeguard, Group Swim Lesson Instructor (primarily in Levels 5/6), and Private Swim Instructor at our Southeast Y. He primarily works with students who are at or looking to achieve an introductory level of swimming, but he also feels comfortable working with all ages and skill levels. Aidan has swam competitively for over five years and is familiar with all stroke techniques. He is usually available weekdays after 4:00 pm and during most weekends.

Alice is a Group and Private Swim Instructor at our Southeast Y. She primarily teaches Level 1 and beginner-level swimmers, but she can teach children and adults at any level of swimming ability and has some experience working with individuals with special needs. Alice grew up around water and learned to swim at a young age. She also competitively swam from ages 7 to 16 and is familiar with all stroke techniques. She is most available for lessons on Sunday mornings.

Amanda is a Private Swim Instructor who teaches children and adults at any level of swim ability at our Southeast Y. Amanda competitively swam from 9 years old through high school and can teach stroke technique. She is available for lessons on weekends and most evenings.

Since 2019, Andy has been working as a Private Swim Instructor at the Y, teaching both children and adults. He swam competitively for nine years and specializes in breaststroke and individual medley. He was an age group state champion and also competed at college club swimming nationals. Andy's goal in teaching is for everyone to enjoy swimming and develop their skills. He is currently pursuing optometry school, which restricts his availability, so please contact the Southeast Y Aquatics Coordinator is set up lessons with Andy.

Annie is a Head Lifeguard as well as a Group and Private Swim Instructor at our Southeast Y. She teaches anyone from babies to adults and covers beginning water introduction all the way through competitive swimming strokes. Annie is a college swimmer and loves spending time in the water. She attends school outside of Bloomington, so please contact the Southeast Y Aquatics Coordinator for her availability.

Blake is a Head Lifeguard and Lead Swim Instructor at our Northwest Y. He teaches children and adults at any level of swimming ability and has some experience working with individuals who have special needs. Erin is a Lifeguard and Private Swim Instructor at our Southeast and Northwest Ys. She teaches children of any level of swim ability and is equipped to work with those who have special needs. Hailey serves as a Lifeguard and teaches Group and Private Swim Lessons at both our Northwest and Southeast Ys. She teaches children and adults at any level of swimming ability and has some experience working with individuals with special needs. Iván has been teaching Group and Private Swim Lessons for more than 10 years between our Monroe County YMCA and other facilities. Through these years, he has worked with many different ages and skillsets. Iván also has a background in music and education. Jacen is a Private Swim Instructor and Lifeguard at our Southeast Y. He primarily teaches children and adults who have intermediate and advanced swimming abilities. Jonah teaches Group Swim Lessons (primarily Level 3) and Private Swim Lessons. He also assists in coaching our YMCA Tiger Sharks Swim Team and serves as a Head Lifeguard at both Y branches. Sam is a Head Lifeguard, Lead Swim Instructor, and Private Swim Instructor primarily at our Northwest Y. He has been swimming since age 9 and has competed on several swim teams, making state cuts in multiple relays and backstroke. Sam first started teaching swimming at age 15 with the Bloomington Swim Club and the YMCA.
