Our Makos Beginner/Intermediate Swim Team is a developmental squad designed for young swimmers who want to improve their competitive swimming skills. Under the expert guidance of Coach Thomas Schmucker, structured practice sessions will help swimmers enhance their stroke technique, endurance, and overall performance. Whether your child is new to competitive swimming or looking to take their skills to the next level, our Makos Beginner/Intermediate team offers the ideal environment for growth.

The Makos Beginner/Intermediate swim squad meets three times a week to maximize skill development and performance improvement. Monthly swim clinic rates are $70 for Y members and $115 for non-members.

Our Makos Advanced Swim Team is designed for competitive swimmers or those looking to elevate their swimming to the highest level. This program provides expert coaching and structured practice sessions to help swimmers focus on mastering advanced techniques, race strategies, and mental preparation, overall achieving their personal best. Under the expert guidance of Coach Thomas Schmucker, athletes will receive specialized coaching to perfect their training regimen, stroke mechanics, race strategies, starts, walls, and the mental toughness required for competitive swimming. Coach Schmucker’s approach ensures that every swimmer develops both the physical and psychological skills needed to succeed in the pool.

Mako's Advanced Swim Training practices occur twice a week, providing focused and efficient training sessions designed to refine advanced skills. Each swimmer will attend four practices per month to maximize training while allowing for recovery and other commitments. Monthly rates are $75 for Y members and $120 for non-members.

As a competitive swimmer for more than 40 years, Coach Thomas Schmucker brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Makos Swim Team program. He's a lifelong Master's swimmer and former University of Chicago swimmer, and he's been coaching all ages and skill levels for over 30 years. Coach Thomas specializes in competitive stroke techniques and racing strategies for pool and open water racing, and he provides individual attention to each swimmer to ensure their skills improve at a comfortable pace without developing bad habits. His approach focuses on instilling a strong work ethic, perfecting stroke development, and honing the critical swimming skills necessary for competitive success.
