Aquatics Information

• Circle swimming is utilized to accommodate three or more swimmers using the whole lap lane. Swimmers swim in a counter-clockwise direction within the lane, always staying on the right side of the lane, similar to cars on a road.
• Before entering a lap lane, observe the speed of the swimmers in the lanes and select the lane that is most appropriate for you. 
• To avoid collisions, only begin swimming when the other swimmers in the lane have been made aware of your presence. The best method is to get in the water and wait at the wall until the other swimmers come to you.
• If you need to pass in your lane, move up to the swimmer and tap their foot. Do not grab or pull the person; a simple tap is a clear indication of your presence and intent to pass. To avoid collisions, a pass must be initiated in time to overtake the slower swimmer before reaching the wall.
• If you stop at the wall for any reason, move into the corner of the lane so other swimmers have room to turn.
• Our swim instructors conduct private swim lessons during times of recreational swim. Please allow our instructors one half of a lap lane (length-wise) to complete their private swim lessons, and you may use the other half to swim laps.

• The Y provides kickboards, pull boys, swim paddles, and deep water aerobics equipment for member and guest use.
  • Please do not use equipment from bins labeled “class use only."
• Coast Guard-approved life jackets are available in a variety of sizes.
• A limited number of goggles are available for swimmers to borrow; ask a lifeguard if there are any available for use.
• Members are welcome to bring their own pool toys, but inflatable rafts and rings are prohibited.
• Due to a higher risk of injury, the weighted “torpedo” toys are not permitted in Y pools.

Swim Tests
Swim tests are administered by lifeguards at their discretion and availability. If a child does not pass the swim test, they will be given a swim bracelet to wear while using the Y pools.

• The Multipurpose Pools at our Southeast and Northwest Ys offer zero-depth entry to help members easily access the pools.
• The Main Pool at our Southeast Y and the Multipurpose Pool at our Northwest Y feature a lift into the pool for those with mobility challenges. There is also a pool access water wheelchair available at our Multipurpose Pool at our Southeast Y. 
• Both our Y facilities offer showers and bathroom stalls that are ADA-compliant.
