Jason Winkle’s background in the Personal Protection world spans more than two decades. Kirsten Winkle is a Martial Concepts’ Personal Protection Instructor and has taught classes with her husband for the past seven years.  Her understanding of the body’s vulnerabilities, stemming from her background in sports medicine and personal training, has helped build a curriculum that is based not on strength, but on leverage and physiology.

General Nutrition Workshop
5:30-6:30 pm
Presented by: Stacey Matavuli, IU Health Bloomington Hospital Dietitian
Northwest Y Community Room

Nutritional “junk science” is everywhere. As consumers, we are bombarded with messages and misinformation so frequently it becomes a challenge to figure out what is the correct message. Stacey will review common red flags of junk science to assist you in becoming an informed consumer as well as be available to answer general nutrition related questions.

Stacey has been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for more than 25 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and obtained her Master of Education degree from the University of Cincinnati. She maintains certificates of training in adult and pediatric weight management as well as Chronic Kidney Disease.  For the past 24 years in her work at IU Health Bloomington Hospital as an outpatient dietitian, she has specialized her work in helping those suffering from a variety of eating disorders, and cares for patients with a variety of medical and nutrition-related issues. Stacey believes in a whole person, whole-self approach to counseling and behavioral change.

Stacey has been an advocate for community health – working with local schools to promote wellness; helping to create the GOAL program at IU Health; and being a guest instructor at her alma mater. She has been an author and reviewer for the Indiana Diet Manual, a resource adopted and used by the state in guiding other RDNs. She enjoys teaching and has learned a great deal from countless patients over the years. She is passionate about teaching people how to balance food and nutrient intake without falling into the dieting dilemmas the media would have us believe.
