LEARN-TO-SWIM LESSONS Level 1 (ages 5-13) Introduction to Water Skills: helps students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Skills include: submersion of mouth, nose and eyes, exhaling underwater, front and backfloat, exploration of swimming on front and back. Level 2 (ages 5-13) Fundamental Aquatic Skills: gives students success with fundamental skills. Skills include: Front and back float and glide, treading water, submersion of entire head to retrieve object from under water, swimming on front and back with alternating arm action, rhythmic breathing. Level 3 (ages 5-13) Stroke Development: builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Skills include: jumping into deep water, introduction to diving, rotary breathing, front and back crawl, survival float. Level 4 (ages 5-13) Stroke Improvement: develops confidence in the strokes learned and improves other aquatic skills. Skills include: intermediate diving skills, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly introduction, sidestroke with scissor kick.
Level 5 (ages 5-13) Stroke Refinement: provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. Skills include: treading water with multiple kicks, front and back flip turns, head first surface dives, advanced diving skills. Level 6 (ages 5-13) Swimming and Skill Proficiency: refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Skills include: stroke technique work, improved turns, personal water safety, and basic lifeguarding skills. |
