This program provides support & resources that encourage positive change in the lives of our members. Hatha Yoga, a mind/body practice, is an invigorating, non-competitive exercise program for men and women. Every class works on developing strength, flexibility, balance, and concentration and emphasizes body alignment, spinal extension, muscular balance, and the subtleties of the breath. Some of the many benefits include physical and mental relaxation, increased energy, and enhancement of one’s overall health. Our classes also foster opportunities for building a sincere and nurturing community of friends.

 

The YMCA’s yoga staff has over 200 years of combined teaching experience! The staff has benefited from extensive teacher training, particularly in the hatha yoga style of Lyengar yoga and Vinyasa yoga. This eclectic approach presents a balanced blend of the best in yoga instruction.

 

Because of the gentle and versatile nature of yoga, this practice can be started by anyone at any age (must be 12 years old to participate in adult classes) and may be adapted to most physical limitations.

ENCORE

A mindful, energizing and restorative Yoga/Pilates fusion class focused on different notions of "core". We will build core control, power and resilience through yoga practice emphasizing postural alignment, breath awareness, overall muscular strength, endurance, elasticity and balance, as well as movement efficiency and integration. We will use props to focus awareness and release muscular tension. Ideal class for Pilates practitioners looking to improve flexibility and mobility and yoga practitioners looking to increase core awareness and stability.

GEAR UP/WIND DOWN

A solid 30 minute cardio workout on the bike followed by a 30 minute yoga session stretching out warmed muscles with particular attention to the large muscles of the body, shoulders & hips.

ENCORE VINYASA  

EnCore Vinyasa is a slow, gentle flowing yoga practice linking breath with body movements initiated from the core. We will focus on alignment as well as transitions between sustained postures. Emphasis will be on movement efficiency, integration, and endurance.  Offered Spring I session.

VINYASA FLOW

(Open to those who have had at least two sessions of Level I or equivalent.)

This level II yoga class is designed for those familiar with yoga & offers a practice attuned to the breath, sweeping the body from one pose to the next.

PRANAYAMA AND MEDITATION

The breath plays a fundamental role in the quality of our existence and all physiological functions of the body. Pranayama (breathwork) is a means of exploring the breath and anchoring the mind in preparation for meditation. The class will provide an introduction to this practice in a relaxed and safe atmosphere. Spring II only

SEMI PRIVATE YOGA, MAT PILATES, OR TAI CHI CLASSES

Looking to learn about yoga, Pilates, or tai chi with a friend? Or perhaps wanting to celebrate an event together this special way? Try a semi-private class. Both participants must come to the Y at the same time to register.

 

By appointment /1-hour session          $60/$135

Note: Teachers work on a scheduled appointment basis. In order for us to use our time effectively, members are asked to give teachers 24-hour notice when cancelling an appointment or be charged for the class.

 

PRIVATE YOGA, MAT PILATES, OR TAI CHI CLASSES

Instructor will develop a yoga, Pilates, or tai chi program specifically for your individual needs. An excellent introduction to the practice. Meet in the Pilates studio.

YOUTH YOGA (age 7-11)

Yoga has many benefits for children, including the development

of strength, balance, coordination, relaxation, and playfulness.

Join us for a fun-filled class that will combine basic poses with

stories, movement games, and more! Yoga is great for kids who

are involved in sports or dance, or for kids who just want to try something new!

YOGA WORKSHOPS

 

FELDENKRAIS

This "Awareness through Movement" program aims to address habitual patterning in the body that can limit movement. We are currently offering this unique mind/body approach as hour-long workshops with various themes. All classes are taught by Craig Hamilton, a certified Feldenkrais instructor. THREE HOME PRACTICES

Three brief home practice sequences to help you take your yoga home. One will focus on sitting poses and twists; one on standing and balance; one on vinyasa/flow to challenge you. Very brief sequences synopses will be provided at the end.
