TAI CHI

Questions?  Contact Diane Thayer at 332-5555, ext. 226.

Tai Chi is a series of slow, flowing movements practiced by people of ALL AGES (must be 12 years oldto participate in adult classes) to improve strength, agility, and balance, while calming and focusing the mind.

Tai Chi/Chi Kung for Balance

Sequences of movement that are learned more easily than longer tai chi forms are practiced with music for physical and emotional balance, leg strengthening, enhanced vital capacity and energy flow. This is both the perfect class with which to begin tai chi study and an excellent ongoing class that emphasizes all the fundamentals of practice.

One 4 week session: June 7-June 28.

Monday      11:45-12:45 pm            $19/$46      Fitness Room 2

Tai Chi Forms

This class features instruction and repetition in Grandmaster William C.C. Chen’s 60 movement short form and 128 movement long form. The class will offer beginning students an opportunity to learn the basic mechanics and some movements from these elegant, adaptable health practices. These beautiful forms emphasize alignment, balance, concentration and energy flow. The lack of impact makes it an excellent exercise for people with arthritis or other special needs. Beginning students will build a solid foundation to expand upon in future tai chi classes. For advanced students there will be opportunities to practice these movement sequences with an instructor. The basics of tai chi staff & sword form will periodically be explored. Participants should be able to stand and move without assistance and to follow verbal instructions.

One 6 week session: June 1-July 8.
