Developed in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, and based on yoga and classical dance, this mind/body practice emphasizes stretching and strengthening the whole body. Special attention is given to postural enhancement and core strength and stability. Must be 12 years old to participate in adult classes.

 

Beginning Fundamentals of Pilates

(This class is a prerequisite for Level 1 Pilates classes)

Level I Pilates

(Must first take 2 sessions of Beginning Fundamentals of Pilates) This class is an opportunity to practice the fundamentals and essential Pilates exercises in a flowing series.

Level II Pilates

(Must first take 2 sessions of Level I Pilates)

Pilates Sculpt & Tone

Get ready for a challenging workout with a wide variety of exercises inspired by Joseph Pilates that emphasize core conditioning. This class will provide a full body workout by promoting movements that increase overall strength, stability, improved posture, and flexibility. Come join us as we sculpt and tone our way to a longer, leaner, and stronger physique! Pilates experience recommended, but not required.

GRAVITY PILATES

(Found Only at the Monroe County YMCA)

Encompasses Pilates fundamentals, the Gravity exercise equipment, and biomechanical movement patterns to maximize core strength, stability, and coordination—a revolutionary repertoire. Class size limited to 5.

Two 6 week sessions:    June 1-July 11;

                                    July 12-August 20.

Instructor will help you define and meet your individual needs-- an excellent way to enhance the group classes.

By appointment (one hour class) $30/$70

*Note: Teachers work on a scheduled appointment basis. In order for us to use our time effectively, members are asked to give teachers 24-hour notice when canceling an appointment or be charged for the class.

 

Yoga/Pilates--Moving from the Core

(Must first take either one session of Beginning Fundamentals of Pilates or one session of Level I Yoga.)

Learn how to create greater stability and better alignment as you move from your core. This class will focus on the integration of hatha yoga and Pilates, which both strengthens and invigorates the practice.
