| HEARTEAM - Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation-Health Maintenance Program Goals: • To build and maintain optimal health • To improve quality of life • To have FUN! Designed for those who have had coronary artery bypass, heart attack, PTCA, or are at risk for heart disease. The HEARTEAM program can help you to gradually and safely regain or build your level of fitness. Please join us on the first and fourth Friday of each month from 1:30 - 2:30 pm in the YMCA Conference Room. A therapist from the I.U. Speech Therapy Department will lead the group in speech exercises that can help voice problems related to Parkinson’s disease. Caregivers, spouses, and family members are welcome to attend. This program will provide a supportive environment in which cancer patients, in all phases of recovery, work to improve their functional status and quality of life through physical activity and multidisciplinary education programs. A YMCA staff person will work directly with the medical and academic community to present current information regarding detection, treatment, alternative therapies, nutrition, and relevant research. Y-Fitness for Life is an exercise program tailored to your health and personal fitness needs. This program is open to anyone who feels they will benefit from exercise, enjoys exercising in a group setting, and is open to making life-style changes. The main goal of this program is to provide a supportive social environment in which participants work to improve personal health, manage acute/chronic disease, and establish healthy behaviors in an effort to increase their quality of life through physical activity and education. Exercise classes consist of initial monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate, and include a warm-up, flexibility, cardiovascular and resistance training. Physician’s approval required.
