| Endowment The Monroe County YMCA Endowment fund pays out interest every year, in good and bad economic times, to provide stability for the YMCA. The interest provides much needed revenue to enhance programs, being new programs, grant scholarships and extend services into the community. It provides a stable source of income to guarantee that the YMCA can continue its mission for future generations. Craig R. Burk Memorial Fund
Established in memory of Craig Burk, a long-time YMCA member. A graduate of BHSS and Ball State University, Craig was working on a master’s degree when he died in June of 2000. During his years in Bloomington, Craig was on the high school golf team and often was found working out in the YMCA weight rooms. Proceeds from this fund provide scholarships for youth interested in improving their health through strength training. | Jonah Binkley Memorial Fund
Alice and Morris Binkley established this fund in honor of their grandson Jonah, who loved visiting the YMCA as a teenager. He became of the first C.I.T’s (counselor in training) at Camp Arrowhead. Jonah passed away in 1992 but left a lasting impression on all who came in contact with him. This fund has given other teens an opportunity to be part of the Leadership Development Programs offered at the YMCA. | Ginger Rink Youth Fund This fund provides program enhancement and scholarship opportunities for area youth participating in YMCA programs. This fund was established in memory of Ginger Rink, who at the age of twenty, died in 1995 while a student at Ball State University. Ginger was a YMCA member and volunteer, and her life reflected her personal philosophy, “Treat everyone as your best friend!” | Sonneborn Hearteam Endowment Fund This fund was established by Jules and June Sonneborn to provide scholarships and provide equipment needed to maintain a high quality Cardiac Rehab program. This program was developed over 27 years ago for those individuals recovering from heart attacks, bypass surgery or other heart conditions. This fund enables the YMCA to keep this program available to all in need. | | Leon and Thelma Thompson Fund
The Leon and Thelma Thompson Fund was established by John Thompson in March 2007. John, son of Thelma and Leon, wanted to honor his parents and their commitment to healthy living through their participation in the YMCA Actives program. Leon, well into his nineties, came to the YMCA almost daily to exercise, volunteer, meet with friends and put a smile on our face. The Leon and Thelma Thompson fund will help ensure the Actives program will be available to even more, providing program scholarships and needed equipment for the Prime Time Fitness Department. Support of this fund will allow the YMCA to serve our Actives community for years to come.
| | Marlene Vass Youth Funds Camp Fund This special endowment fund is being used to provide summer camp scholarships and to purchase needed equipment for Camp Arrowhead. Energize Program Fund (non-endowed) Marlene has also set up an additional designated non-endowed fund to support the Energize program that educated and implements health and wellness programming to our children’s school day. | Wayne Nichols Youth Scholarship Fund, In Memory of Joanne "Ruff" Huffnagel This fund honors local physical education teacher and coach, Wayne Nichols, for his dedication to the community. The fund is also in memory of Joanne "Ruff" Huffnagel, also a former local physical education teacher and a lifelong athlete. The fund will provide a YMCA youth scholarship to an elementary age child based on potential for athletic and academic achievement. The Scholarship is meant to help a child who wouldn't otherwise be able to participate in YMCA programs because of financial barriers. | Tom and Deb Porter Aquatics Fund Tom and Deb Porter have been long-time supports of the YMCA. Tom is a former Executive Director of the Y who helped to build the current Y facility in 1981. Aquatics have played an important role in Tom's life since his first job as a lifeguard.
