Inchworms/Caterpillars/Butterflies
These three classes offer a comprehensive and sequential preschool movement and academic education based on developmentally appropriate activities. Each class will include physical fitness as well as research based educational activities to help prepare your child for that next step!
Young Minds Create Art (ages 4-6)
In this YMCA art appreciation class, your child will be introduced to the wonderful aspects of The Arts. Their young minds will explore drama, music, art, movement and foreign language. The children’s minds and bodies will be active both creatively and physically!
CAN DO KIDS!: a Pre-School Transition Program (age 2-6)
The Monroe County YMCA wants to help children make an easy and stress-free transition to our preschool programs. If your child has been diagnosed with a developmental delay of any type – for example a language, cognitive, learning, social or motor disability – or if you suspect your child may have special issues, this program is designed for you. We will have smaller class sizes, so trained staff will be able to give more individualized attention to the specific needs of each child. The class will still emphasize socialization through songs and movement activities. We will work closely with parents, physical therapists, behavioral specialists and any professional who may be working with you and your child. Our goal is to get to know your child and work with you to develop a plan to help your child before moving him or her into the typical preschool program. We feel that providing this transition program will be less stressful for everyone, while simultaneously providing better programming. It is our aspiration to provide a successful experience for all children based upon the individual abilities and needs of the child.
LUNCH BUNCH! (age 3-6)
For those parents who would like for their children to stay for the morning and attend our afternoon Locomotion, Butterflies or Super Skilled Kids programs, we will provide supervised time for the children to eat and have free play time before their classes begin.
KINDERGARTEN CLASS (ages 5 & 6)
This Healthy Start half day kindergarten program will prepare children for first grade using a teacher made curriculum based on the Indiana State Standards. Daily activities include a class meeting, activities integrating academics into movement games, learning centers (math, science, social studies and English language arts) and teacher read aloud time. In addition, music, art and drama specials will be offered once a week. To ensure that our students remain physically active, we offer PE on a daily basis. Class is limited to 12 participants.
