What is ACHIEVE?

• We are a collaboration among the Monroe County YMCA, Bloomington Parks and Recreation, and the Active Living Coalition to combat obesity and chronic diseases throughout
  the county.

• We bring together local leaders to build a healthier community by promoting policy, systems and environmental change stategies that focus on physical activity, nutrition, tobacco cessation and obesity/diabetes/cardiovascular disease, etc.

• We promote improvements such as increased access to and use of locations for engaging in physical activity; revised school food contracts that include more fruit, vegetables and grains; requirements for sidewalks/signals for more pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods and more.

• We are developing ways of educating businesses, schools, and community organizations about all of the positive, healthy programs, policies, and initiatives that already exist in Monroe County.

• We support collaboration and sharing of policies and initiatives across sectors to make healthy choices easy choices.

• Through all of the above, we are encouraging healthy lifestyle changes in our community.

What are the goals of ACHIEVE?

• Catalyze communities to make Policy, Environmental and Systematic changes

• Create change across five sectors of the community: Community at Large, Community Institution/Organization, Schools, Healthcare, Worksite

• Assess our community assets and needs and develop an Action Plan that will meet those specific needs
